Class of 1981's Randy Nason passes away

January 17, 2011

I am very sad to report that my own class of 1981 has lost Randy Nason. He passed away on Monday, Jan. 17 and his obituary appeared in the Bangor Daily News on Tuesday, Jan. 18. Randy was a great guy who had an amazingly positive outlook, especially given his serious illness, and a great sense of humor. He was well-loved by many people, and his passing is a huge loss not only for his family and friends, but for our class and for the Orono-Old Town area as well. We send our condolences to all he was close to and we will greatly miss him at our reunion this summer. --Betsy Graves Rose '81
Here is the obituary from the BDN:
OLD TOWN - Randy J. Nason, 47, died Jan. 17, 2011, after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 21, 1963, in Bangor, the son of Dennis and Donna (Amero) Nason. Randy valued the time that he had to spend with his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and having his morning coffee at Old Town Trading Post with his cousin, David. Randy was a wonderful son, father, husband, brother, provider for his family and a friend to all. Randy is survived by his soul mate, best friend and wife of 13 1/2 years, Tracey Nason; his eight children, Carey Lindberg, Nicholas Nason and his significant other, Elizabeth Day, Bethany Nason and her significant other, James Small, Jakob Larson and his significant other, Kassandra Mores, Karisa Larson and her significant other, Gary Johnson, Tyler Tibbetts, Dustin Nason and Emily Nason; his son-in-law, Erik Lindberg; five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Brianna, Keegan, Sylus and Brayden; three siblings, Sherri Parent and her husband, Michael, Shelly Rhodes and her husband, Chad, and Robbie Nason and his wife, Kelly; mother-in-law, Rose Pyle; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his special friends, David Nadeau, Lisa Mahaney, Joe and Laurie Ouellette, the crew at Keith Trembley's and Paul Davis Restoration, and many other friends, too numerous to name. Randy was predeceased by his parents. Family and friends are invited to call 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. All are invited afterwards for light refreshments and continued remembrance of Randy at Veterans of Foreign Wars, 64 Water St., Old Town. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Randy's honor to American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718 and make note for the Relay For Life team "Hunting for a Cure" or www.relayforlife.org/penobscotme.
